First-Year Leadership FAQs

All first-year students at TCU are eligible to apply. No prior leadership experience is required—just a willingness to learn and engage!

Yes! You are welcome and encouraged to apply for multiple FLOs, but if selected, you will only be able to participate in one!

The application is available online through TCU Engage, our student involvement portal. Application are open from July 1 to August 31. After submitting your application, FLOs will later communicate to candidates who are selected for an interview.

Each FLO meets regularly (typically weekly or biweekly), and members are expected to participate in meetings, events, and service projects. Specific time commitments vary by FLO.

FLO members engage in leadership development activities, service projects, social events, and other initiatives unique to each program.

By joining a FLO, you’ll gain leadership experience, make meaningful connections, and develop skills that will benefit you throughout college and beyond.

There is no cost to apply or participate in a FLO. Some activities may involve optional expenses.

Yes! Many students balance FLO involvement with other organizations. However, we encourage you to consider your time commitments before applying.

The application process for First-Year Leadership Opportunities is competitive and as a result it is not a guarantee that you will get a spot. We recommend taking time to thoughtfully answer each question in the application.

The application for FLOs is open from July 1 to August 31 (11:59 PM). Once the application is closed, no more applications will be accepted.

If your circumstances change, we ask that you communicate with your FLO’s advisors or leaders as soon as possible so they can support you and adjust accordingly. We encourage you to consider your time commitments before applying.
